Delaware Valley Ramps to Host U-Pick Fundraiser for SEEDS

EQUINUNK – Bring your friends and family to Delaware Valley Ramps in Equinunk, PA to celebrate the arrival of spring by harvesting your own bounty of ramps while supporting the programs of SEEDS (Sustainable Energy Education and Development Support)! 

Ramps are the first edible green plant of spring. Also known as wild leeks, they are related to garlic and onions and grow wild in the forests of the Upper Delaware River watershed. Highly prized by locals and chefs, they can be used in a variety of dishes to herald the arrival of spring.

“Digging ramps is a way of experiencing the arrival of spring in the woods with the reward of putting fresh local food on the table” says Steven Schwartz, Chief Forager of Delaware Valley Ramps.

Participants will learn how to harvest, wash and store ramps and sustainably manage their forest for healthy resilient ramps growth. Recipes will be available to take home to cook up the ramps dug. Tools and equipment are provided on site right on the Delaware River.

The Ramps U-Pick season runs from Friday, April 22 through Sunday, May 15. Delaware Valley Ramps will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the season.This is a ticketed 2-hour event with no more than 10 tickets per 2 hour period. Tickets are $60 per person/children under 14 are free.

Delaware Valley Ramps has been commercially harvesting ramps for delivery to leading restaurants and wholesalers in New York City and the region for the last 15 years. Over the years some friends and customers have come to harvest on the property and experience the early spring woods coming to life. This year, for the first time, they are opening this experience up to the general public.
