Back to Basics: Water Conservation Program

August 15 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

SEEDS (Sustainable Energy Education and Development Support) of NEPA is partnering with the Wayne Conservation District to host a Water Conservation Workshop as part of their ongoing Back to Basics workshop series for 2026. The program will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Stourbridge Tech Hub, 646 Park Street, Room 2040 on the second floor in Honesdale, PA at 10am. This free, public event will empower residents to take practical steps toward protecting local water resources and reducing household water use.

Wayne Conservation District Watershed Specialist, Rachael Marques will share expertise on watershed protection, rainwater harvesting, demonstrating simple, cost-effective strategies for conserving water at home and in the garden. Participants will learn how small actions—like installing rain barrels, planting native species, and managing runoff—can make a lasting impact on community sustainability.

Saving water is one of the most effective ways to live sustainably. Every gallon conserved reduces the energy required for pumping, heating, and treating water—lowering carbon emissions and utility costs. In Wayne County and across Northeast Pennsylvania, protecting water supplies also means preserving the region’s rivers, lakes, and aquifers that support wildlife, recreation, and agriculture. By using water wisely, residents help ensure clean, reliable resources for future generations while strengthening local resilience against droughts and extreme weather.

“Water conservation is essential to maintaining the health of our local ecosystems,” said Watershed Specialist Rachael Marques. “We’re excited to collaborate with the SEEDS to help residents understand how everyday choices can protect our shared environment.”

The workshop will also include the opportunity to take home your very own rain barrel to one lucky attendee. The presentation will include a Q&A session and take-home resources for homeowners and local businesses. Registration is encouraged, and space is limited. REGISTER BY CLICKING HERE

This program was made possible with funding awarded to SEEDS from the Wayne County Community Foundation.
