My Adventures as an Intern…

July 14, 2011

So I guess I will start out by telling you I have had an interesting but very educational week here at SEEDs. I am happy to say the first week of working here was a success! Many houses are definitely not energy efficient therefore that is where we, as the Intern of SEEDs, come into play.  I enjoy meeting the homeowners and  then trudging through many nooks and crannies, rivers which are basements and sweating in hot attics. As I take in each room of the house I find little places where air can fly through like a highway, protruding right into the depths of the home.  Places where air penetrates through are known as air bypass. A few examples of air bypass would be gaps around wiring and pipes, holes around chimneys, cracks in exterior walls and places where insulation is mysteriously missing! After scribbling where each notable place of air bypass was found I come back to the office to write a report for the homeowners who are seeking to save energy. It is a great thing! One definite consumption I have come up with are the homeowners, my Interns and I have visited, really do want to save this earth and are finding their own ways to improve their environment. Even with a few simple tasks of recycling gutter water to water flowers or using the excess water that generates from a dehumidifier to flush toilets. That is a big help! I feel honored to be apart of this group and I hope my efforts are saving mother nature a little at a time…
