Proceeds from Green Fair and 5K and for Clean Air will benefit Citizens for A Healthy Jessup (CFHJ) and Friends of Lackawanna (FOL), and support their effort to not only protect our environment, but the health and well-being of our community and the reputation and dignity of our region.
- Citizens for A Healthy Jessup (CFHJ) is currently raising funds for air monitoring equipment to ensure the health and safety of the people in NEPA after Invenergy LLC’s 1,500 megawatt gas power plant in Jessup is operating. The plant will be one of the largest of its kind in the country and we are concerned about negative effects that the plant will have on the area’s health, natural environment, neighborhoods, reputation, and property values.
- Friends of Lackawanna (FOL) is currently raising funds to continue the legal fight against Keystone Sanitary Landfill’s (KSL) ongoing operation and proposed Phase III expansion. For over 30 years, Dunmore and Throop have been home to one of the largest landfills in Pennsylvania. Now, KSL wants to expand for another 40 years and take in an additional 100 million tons of trash. If the expansion is granted, it will cement Northeastern Pennsylvania’s reputation as a dumping ground and handcuff the region to an antiquated industry thereby depriving NEPA of the opportunity to be a progressive, healthy and leading community.
