TIME FOR THANKS. SEEDS receives grants to help support community programs

June 25, 2015

WCCF check 2015 and PPL II SEEDS is very grateful to our members and regular donors. Without their support, we could not remain in operation. We would also like to thank the John and Helen Villaume Foundation, the Wayne County Community Foundation and PPL for recent grants. The John and Helen Villaume Foundation awarded SEEDS a grant to support our “Help Community Buildings Save Energy” program. This program will assess local non-profit and community buildings for energy efficiency. With the help of our student interns, who will work on our annual summer energy assessment program, and the Honesdale area Jaycees, several local non-profits will not only receive a free energy assessment, but SEEDS volunteers will show up and do the work recommended by the assessment reports. With a budget of about $1000 per building, the non-profits will receive free LED bulbs, smart strips, energy monitors, and our volunteers will fix air breeches and insulation deficiencies. The energy saved from these upgrades will allow these non-profits to better serve our community by saving significantly on their energy costs. Thank you to the John and Helen Villaume Foundation! The Wayne County Community Foundation gave SEEDS a grant to cover the cost of new computer equipment needed for our students who will be helping on the above project. This was critical for the success of this program. Thank you Wayne County Community Foundation! PPL Electric Utilities awarded a grant to SEEDS to help us with our program and operational costs. This will allow us to continue our 2015 programs and plan more for 2016! PA’s Department of Environmental Protection awarded SEEDS an Environmental Education grant. SEEDS is using 75% of the grant to hire 3 student interns this summer who will perform energy assessments. Don’t forget to call or email SEEDS if you want a free home energy assessment (must be a resident of Wayne or Pike County). SEEDS carefully budgets our funds for maximum benefit to our community. We are still looking for support to help us with our 2016 operational costs.
