Solar Buyer Bill of Rights’ Explains What to Watch Out For When Going Solar

November 12, 2024

New guide to empower more people to confidently go solar – saving money on electricity for years to come while reducing air pollution.

SEEDS, a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable energy education and development, wants you to know that if you are considering solar energy, you have rights and it’s a good idea to get informed. Today SEEDS announces the release of its Solar Buyer Bill of Rights, a new resource to help promote fair dealing and overall good business practices in the fast-growing local solar industry.

Solar energy is a promising way for many families and businesses to take control of their energy costs, especially as more people are taking advantage of rebates and incentives to electrify home heating and appliances. The point of going solar is to save money over time and play a part in reducing air pollution. Like any big purchase, there are many particulars to learn about, from the technology to the installation process and financing options.

“The solar industry is growing rapidly, and it’s important that our community has access to resources that are easy to understand,” said Maria Cohen, Board Chairperson at SEEDS.

This new guide aims to empower homeowners and small business owners with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions when considering solar energy. The Solar Buyer Bill of Rights covers many common topics in the solar buying process that can otherwise be new and unfamiliar.

“Our organization fields many questions about solar because it’s simply a different kind of property improvement project,” said Adam Freedgood, a SEEDS Board Member. “Solar puts money back in your pocket over time but there are certain things to watch out for that we address all in one place in this new guide,” Freedgood said.

The Solar Buyer Bill of Rights is available to download for free on the SEEDS website. It is designed to be the first resource that people turn to when they start to seriously consider solar as a way to save money on electricity bills or improve the value of their property.

“The Solar Buyer Bill of Rights is a valuable resource that we hope will help make solar energy more accessible by reassuring buyers that they have rights and access to additional advice from our volunteer experts if they need it,” Cohen said.
